Thursday 6 October 2011 - Third Gender
It's official. On Australian passports, you can know choose between female (F), male (M) or indeterminate (X). What I don't really know is : Do they check ? I mean, if I am indecise or don't know English enough (which could have happened a few years before when it was easier to get an Aussie passport) or just don't tick the right box, can I put indeterminate ? :) At least, that a big step forward for transgender
According to The Guardian "Australian senator Louise Pratt, whose partner was born female and is now identified as a man, said the reform was a major improvement for travellers who face questioning and detention at airports because their appearance does not match their gender status. [...] The attorney-general, Robert McClelland, said while the change would affect few Australians, it was important because it would allow them to travel free of discrimination. [...] As many as 4% of people have an intersex condition, but most never become aware of their minor chromosome abnormalities."
